Doctor of Philosophy

The Centre for Musculoskeletal Studies, within the School of Surgery, provides opportunity for part-time and full-time enrolments leading to Master of Science [MSc], Master of Medical Science [MMSc] and Doctor of Philosophy [PhD] degrees. These programs are offered through the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry & Health Sciences at The University of Western Australia.

The Doctor of Philosophy degree is administered through the Office of the Dean of Postgraduate Studies. The PhD program may be undertaken by approved graduates through a supervised research program. On completion the submitted thesis must satisfy the examiners that it is an original and substantial contribution to the candidate's field of study. Doctor of Philosophy candidates would normally be graduates in Physiotherapy of not less than two years standing with a Master of Physiotherapy by research, or its equivalent, or have extensive research in a field related to the Centre's research activities. Approved candidates would undertake a supervised research program in the Centre.

Course Duration

Minimum of three years full-time, or six years part-time.

Course Structure

Thesis completed under direct supervision. In special circumstances, candidates may commence their research program within the Masters by Research and then upgrade to a PhD program.
