The Centre for Musculoskeletal Studies is pleased to offer the Master of Neurological Rehabilitation to qualified physiotherapists who wish to develop their clinical research skills and related neurosciences knowledge in the area of Neurological Rehabilitation. Local graduates of the GDNR can apply for places in the MNR under the Research Training Scheme (RTS).
The Master of Neurological Rehabilitation course provides an opportunity for physiotherapists who have completed the Graduate Diploma in Neurological Rehabilitation (GDNR), to pursue an area of specific research interest culminating in a research dissertation. This research degree will complement the academic objectives of the GDNR, emphasising development of knowledge of the current theories, treatment approaches and research evidence which underpin neurological rehabilitation practice.
Pre- requisites - Bachelors degree in physiotherapy and successful completion of the Graduate Diploma Neurological Rehabilitation.
Individuals who would prefer to undertake a larger scale investigation by research thesis may consider the Master of Medical Science or Master of Science degree.

The academic faculty will be coordinated by Dr Barby Singer, PT, PhD. Collaborations across the Faculty and neurology services in Perth would be facilitated as required to support specific projects.
The two additional units which will comprise the Master of Neurological Rehabilitation are:
PTMT8556: Research and evidence-based practice in rehabilitation
Research and evidence-based practice in rehabilitation - is a research preparation
unit which aims to provide a sound working knowledge of research methodologies
and their application to neurological rehabilitation. Students will develop
an understanding of different approaches and designs used in health science
research and related fields, and will hone skills in critical appraisal of existing
research literature. A component of this unit will be the development of a detailed
research proposal relevant to their area of clinical and research interest,
including consideration of related ethics issues. Pilot or case studies will
be initiated including a review of data analysis relevant to the investigation.
This will assist with critical appraisal of data management in research literature
as well as selection of appropriate methodologies for data analysis in the research
project to be undertaken.
PTMT8509: Neurological Rehabilitation dissertation - will allow students to design, conduct, analyze and report a research project in their specific area of sub-specialty within neurological rehabilitation. Students will develop their understanding of the process of clinical research as well as demonstrating competence at each stage of the research process. In addition this unit aims to develop problem solving, time management, analytical and scientific writing skills. The course has been designed to meet the needs of physiotherapy graduates with a flexible structure to accommodate part or full time enrolment. Students are encouraged to become increasingly independent learners as they move through their enrolment. Students will self select an area for their research project and will be mentored, wherever possible, by clinical researchers in this sub-specialty.
